El entrenador catalán buscó emparejar el sistema táctico del equipo francés, pero durante gran parte del primer tiempo no encontró los caminos para generar ocasiones de peligro. Recién en el complemento, con resultado adverso, Pep movió el tablero, aprovechó el desgaste de su rival, igualó la contienda y cuando parecía que Manchester City lo ganaba, aparecieron otra vez los errores defensivos para inclinar la balanza en favor del Lyon.
